Vintage Disderi studio photo, address on reverse

Marie] Gabrielle Krauss. Austrian soprano , Vienna: 24 Mar 1842 - Paris: 6 Jan 1906.
She studied at the Vienna Conservatory with Madame Marchesi. She made her debut in Berlin (1859) as Mathilde in William Tell and many others.

Elle se hissa bientôt au niveau des plus brillantes cantatrices europeennes et se rendit à Paris; Elle y fut engagée au Théatres Italiens de 1859 à 1870 et en devint l'une des Prima Donna.
Elle entre ensuite dans la troupe de l'Opéra de Paris ou son extraordinaire voix lui fit participer aux créations de Aïda le 22 mars 1880, Jeanne d'Arc, Polyeucte, Henry VIII, Patrie (Dolores).
Elle prit sa retraite de l'Opéra en 1888.
Les chroniqueurs l'époque l'ont surnommé 'la Rachel du chant', sa voix s'étendait du Si naturel grave au contre dieze. Elle se produisit aussi à Berlin et à la Scala de Milan.
